STEPH
... is a popular recruiter. Great at finding and placing prospective job candidates and keeping in touch with them and with the agency’s clients.
But for official record keeping for the parent company she has to enter details about each contact with a candidate or a client into the company software. She loves connecting with the people but isn’t a fan of the technology and she makes mistakes and sometimes forgets to enter her information at all.
If only she had a little microlesson on her phone that she could take out each time she’s in the software and follow along with pictures and clear directions
JOHN
... is involved with a local Science Center that does presentations about nature, the planets, chemical experiments and physics demonstrations for schools and organizations and the community in general. It’s a hidden treasure. People don’t know about it.
The Center has a website but it’s hard to follow and hard to find the information you need efficiently. There’s a page of spectacular photos that could turn anyone into a science geek. Those pictures should be front and center but they’re buried under multiple links so someone could easily miss them!
The Center wants to attract some new groups to take advantage of what they offer, and improve their visibility in general. If only they could find someone to organize their website content, do some rewriting, and advise where each subject and picture should go.
EDWARD
... heads up the Investment team at a Wealth Management firm. He’s an older guy who’s been there forever and has made very profitable financial suggestions for his clients. The client base has grown because Edward’s clients have recommended him to their friends.
Edward keeps meticulous records but he’s just come to you feeling overwhelmed because the volume of his documents on his computer has become unmanageable after so many years.
You realize he never learned how to create folders to organize his documents, and never learned how to save a document into a folder.
If only someone could sit with him in person or virtually and declutter his computer.
LOU
... is the Office Manager for an active medical office of 10 clinicians. The office is busiest during the days but some clinicians work in the evenings too. There’s a front desk person who comes in at night but he has basically gotten accustomed to just answering phones, making reminder calls, and filing the patient charts from the daytime. Occasionally booking an appointment.
Lou just told you she was diagnosed with a serious illness and she will be out of work for 6 months starting next week. You are concerned and worried for her.
The evening person is available to come in some days until you can hire someone temporarily from an agency. You realize that while he is dependable, he never learned how to do all the daily tasks that Lou does that keep the office running smoothly.
Lou keeps a folder with usernames and passwords – thank goodness for this! - but there are no documented instructions for all the things that she does every day or for all the systems she logs into to remain in compliance with the state, not to mention getting the invoices out.
You really wish you had a booklet with instructions for how to run this office. Because it’s not like you can close for 6 months. There are patients to take care of!
DEBBIE
... is a well-known travel agent who has been all around the world herself so her recommendations come from personal experience. She specializes in group and family travel; every day of the tour is carefully planned out in a way that’s customized for the people going.
Since most people now have the ability and resources to book their own individual travel, her agency isn’t doing much individual work anymore and most of their revenue is coming from the family and group tours. They want Debbie to organize a PowerPoint presentation that they could use for marketing where she explains what she can do for a group or family. They selected which country she should use for this deck.
Debbie is so comfortable interacting with families but it comes very naturally to her, she barely has to think about it, and so she is stumped about how to start organizing this presentation.
If only she could meet with someone to bounce around her thoughts and put them in order, and then advise her on the slide design too.
JEB
... oversees his Association’s popular conferences, webinars, Lunch & Learns.
Participants often ask him whether they can receive Continuing Education credits to meet the requirements for their licenses and certifications.
Jeb wants to answer YES – this would bring in revenue and prestige - but there isn’t anyone on the already lean staff who could handle the details of achieving and maintaining compliance with the standards of an accrediting body.
If only they could bring someone in who could look critically at their curricula, and craft and align learning objectives with content, and also build assessments that measured achievement of those objectives. Then the Association could apply for accreditation.
